Medina Lake - Thousand Trails Park

On the road again and going further south to find warmer weather... On second thought will this country ever warm up... OK maybe Rick at Rick & Paulette's RV Travels is enjoying warm weather and is at the pool everyday... and a few of my other bloggin buddies! So after a couple of hours driving over the hills and through the woods we arrived at our destination.

We have arrived at Medina Lake in Lakehills, Texas which is about 25 miles west of San Antonio. We are staying at a Thousand Trails membership park and it is pretty much typical of all the other TT parks. These resorts at one time must have been really something but as time went by it became run down and that is when they are bought by ELS corporation and turned into a membership parks... There is always high hopes of the parks being renovated and new items being added for recreation enjoyment but it doesn't always happen like the salesmen say. On another note after paying a somewhat hefty membership fee and the good size yearly dues the camping at these resorts are free... ☺☺☺

Medina Lake resort at one time must have been really nice.... The lake is huge... however while we were there the level of water was really low. I don't think you could even use any of the boat docks to launch your boat.

The sites are pretty much level and spacious... you are also not on top of your neighbor which is a big plus for us. They have 30 & 50 amps sites with electric & water... We are parked in the trees so our satellite on the top of the rig did not pick up a signal but Ralph put up our portable and we have all of our stations. Also our At&T Internet card works BUT at a very slow speed (guess it is better then none) and both At&T and Verizon phones work out here. They have a lot of permanent people who pay to keep their campers on site which I think is not really fair to other members... Also I think they should be kept on one area and not spread out around the park.

After driving around in our car we found a several sites we liked however they had someone on them... We liked a site in the wooded area but was afraid we would not get TV... We decided to take it and YES we did get TV with our portable dish. Tassie is happy all tucked into the site but boy is she dirty after going through snow & rain the last couple of weeks and it has been just way to cold for Ralph to give her a bath.

After getting settled in we went to the Activities center to check it out... All of the Thousand Trail Parks have Clubhouses & pools where they have planned activities and usually planned food events... This one had a hot dog cookout on the first Friday we were here and will have a Fish Fry this Friday... Thursday mornings they have a pancake breakfast... 50 cents for pancakes and .75 cents for 3 pieces of bacon... not to bad! On the weekends they have a little restaurant area where they cook Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. They also have putt putt golf, basketball court & play area for kids.

One of the highlights of this park are the huge amount of deer that roam all through out the park all day & night... They are so tamed from all the people feeding them that when you open your door they don't even spook & run. The only time you see them running is when someone throws out food... and boy do they haul butt then. ☺☺ I being a lover of nature and animals find this very enjoyable to be able to look out my windows and see all the beautiful trees and deer right outside in my site.

We will be going into San Antonio sightseeing and to visit a couple of restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. So keep a watch out for those upcoming post. We ant to of course visit the Missions and infamous Riverwalk. There are 5 total missions here in San Antonio the most famous being of course the ALAMO... and of course Market Square a two block long festival market which sell pinatas, jewelry, clothing, pottery, leather goods.... You can also enjoy enchiladas and margaritas while you listen to the music...

So....
Until Later... Have FUN, Travel Safe & Enjoy Everyday!

Hi Donna. Hope you're enjoying your visit to Texas. Are you going to the Oasis when you go to SA? My daughter says it's fabulous. And while you are visiting missions, if you get a chance to visit Presidio La Bahia in Gonzales it's one of the most amazing places I've ever been. Have fun! Kathy

Oh wow, I wasn't really all that impressed with this park until you showed all the deer! That right there would make the low water in the lake worth it for me!

Can't wait to hear about your foodie adventures. This is so much fun!

THat is a beautiful sunset. I would really enjoy the Deer. Is that sand on the ground? Kind of reminds me of Florida a little bit. Around Gainesville.
We had snow again today. Not much on the ground but still falling. It didn't get above freezing. Strange weather!

We love the hill country. Sherri and I are going to look into that Thousand Trails deal. Not sure if it would work for us but if we can save some camping fees then it would be worth looking at. Love the pictures...this park looks like a winner.

All things considered, the park isn't too bad. We've seen worse! The deer population is a plus. Enjoy touring San Antonio!

Great pictures, Donna! Sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time. Now that's more like it; no more hospitals and surgeries, unless you must. We are heading west this summer so some of this info could be very helpful to us then. Can't wait to see what's in the next blog. Enjoy!

Love the idea of deer right there in the park..... hope nobody hits one with their vehicle. I would no doubt get upset when the deer started dining on my flowers and veggies!

Isn't the Texas Hill Country just so beautiful?!!! Did you run into any snow while traveling around last week?

Bitterly cold in so many places this winter.

Beautiful lake shots!

That's not a bad looking park, for a TT. It can't be all bad if it's full hookup, level with TV and internet, what else do you need. LOL We'll be there before long with you and we'll make are own fun. Playing cards, happy hour and watching the guys cook our dinner on the grill. Life doesn't get any better than that. :)

Love Ya,
Chris
