Medina Lake - Thousand Trails Park

On the road again and going further south to find warmer weather... On second thought will this country ever warm up... OK maybe Rick at Rick & Paulette's RV Travels is enjoying warm weather and is at the pool everyday... and a few of my other bloggin buddies! So after a couple of hours driving over the hills and through the woods we arrived at our destination.

We have arrived at Medina Lake in Lakehills, Texas which is about 25 miles west of San Antonio. We are staying at a Thousand Trails membership park and it is pretty much typical of all the other TT parks. These resorts at one time must have been really something but as time went by it became run down and that is when they are bought by ELS corporation and turned into a membership parks... There is always high hopes of the parks being renovated and new items being added for recreation enjoyment but it doesn't always happen like the salesmen say. On another note after paying a somewhat hefty membership fee and the good size yearly dues the camping at these resorts are free... ☺☺☺

Medina Lake resort at one time must have been really nice.... The lake is huge... however while we were there the level of water was really low. I don't think you could even use any of the boat docks to launch your boat.

The sites are pretty much level and spacious... you are also not on top of your neighbor which is a big plus for us. They have 30 & 50 amps sites with electric & water... We are parked in the trees so our satellite on the top of the rig did not pick up a signal but Ralph put up our portable and we have all of our stations. Also our At&T Internet card works BUT at a very slow speed (guess it is better then none) and both At&T and Verizon phones work out here. They have a lot of permanent people who pay to keep their campers on site which I think is not really fair to other members... Also I think they should be kept on one area and not spread out around the park.

After driving around in our car we found a several sites we liked however they had someone on them... We liked a site in the wooded area but was afraid we would not get TV... We decided to take it and YES we did get TV with our portable dish. Tassie is happy all tucked into the site but boy is she dirty after going through snow & rain the last couple of weeks and it has been just way to cold for Ralph to give her a bath.

After getting settled in we went to the Activities center to check it out... All of the Thousand Trail Parks have Clubhouses & pools where they have planned activities and usually planned food events... This one had a hot dog cookout on the first Friday we were here and will have a Fish Fry this Friday... Thursday mornings they have a pancake breakfast... 50 cents for pancakes and .75 cents for 3 pieces of bacon... not to bad! On the weekends they have a little restaurant area where they cook Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. They also have putt putt golf, basketball court & play area for kids.

One of the highlights of this park are the huge amount of deer that roam all through out the park all day & night... They are so tamed from all the people feeding them that when you open your door they don't even spook & run. The only time you see them running is when someone throws out food... and boy do they haul butt then. ☺☺ I being a lover of nature and animals find this very enjoyable to be able to look out my windows and see all the beautiful trees and deer right outside in my site.

We will be going into San Antonio sightseeing and to visit a couple of restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. So keep a watch out for those upcoming post. We ant to of course visit the Missions and infamous Riverwalk. There are 5 total missions here in San Antonio the most famous being of course the ALAMO... and of course Market Square a two block long festival market which sell pinatas, jewelry, clothing, pottery, leather goods.... You can also enjoy enchiladas and margaritas while you listen to the music...

So....
Until Later... Have FUN, Travel Safe & Enjoy Everyday!

~~~Lake Fort Smith State Park in Mountainburg, Arkansas~~~
I do NOT have great Internet service out here in the woods.... It is so slow and not being a very patient women I get tired of waiting for it to react... It pretty much took days to even get this post together. So if you don't here from me for a while don't worry... "I'll be back" as soon as we return to Spring Hill!!!
We have been here at Lake Fort Smith State Park in Mountainburg, Arkansas for almost 3 weeks and it is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have ever been too. During the week there are not very many people here... Out of 30 sites there were only 3-5 others that were occupied but they were not anywhere near us... These campsites have W/E /S (50/30amp) and some can receive Internet with an air card.... AT&T has limited service but enough to make calls... Verizon is very iffy... Iffy you get out it is a miracle. If you stay in the sites closest to the Visitor Center you will get a better signal on your Internet card....
Beautiful sites... There are none that are not excellent
Sparkling extra clean restrooms... You fellow campers can appreciate these pictures
Breathtaking views!!!
There are so many deer here during the week when no one is here that we are just amazed. I can never get my camera fast enough. Just this morning 4 big deer ran right in front of Tassie and by the time I could get my camera on and ready all I got was a butt shot of them running into the woods. We also have had a visit from a couple of very young deer (fawns) and a lot of birds. I have noticed that there are a lot of hummingbirds, woodpeckers, sparrows, crows, small chick-a-dees and many others in these woods. At night the bats come out and fly overhead... they are so small but very cool to watch... We choose the very last site on the road so that looking out our windows we see the woods and hopefully the wildlife that may come around... We love being out in the woods and are definitely children of nature!
Plenty of nature to watch
There has been a lot of rain since we arrived here making it hard to really do anything. But that is okay with us... we enjoy just hanging around and relaxing. A great time to catch up on books that need to be read & old movies to be watched. We have had several fires and also have taken walks in the woods but we don't like to stray to terribly far into them because of the rainy weather. I take my camera almost every time we go for a walk but one day thinking I had taken pictures of everything I decided not to take it along... DUH!!! It was the day we saw about 9 deer in this one area and one of them even warned us by snorting not to get to close to his clan... SO once again no pictures... lesson learned always have your camera by your side. But trust me if you come visit this park there are plenty of deer here for you to watch... They even walked right behind our site while we were sitting outside...
Great trails to explore!
and Relaxing evenings by the firepit
Ok... the next time you'll here from me we'll be back closer to the city.
I will be on more regularly then ...
Miss you all and I will get caught up on reading your post when I can....
