Cruising the Beaches

We have moved to the Northeast coast of Massachusetts and staying in Salisbury Beach at the Beach Rose RV Park. (Click here for a complete review of park)  As soon as we pulled into this park we absolutely loved it!  The weather is sunny and cool with a few rain showers at night ~ we can definitely live with that.  We have had so much better luck with parks on this trip through New England then we did a few years back.  On our first trip to New England we looked for bargain campgrounds and we certainly got what we paid for bad power ~ dirt ~ unlevel.  Since then we have gotten a little smarter with our choices.  The parks are a little pricier this time here but you do get what you pay for.

It was a tough day for us because as we were heading north through Boston area it seemed like Tassie was chugging not to well... We found a Cummins Service place and pulled in.  They were very helpful and after checking her out they said it was the fuel filter and after changing both filters we were back on the road.  Whew that was a lucky brake but  we wondered how come the guys who did a oil change and check up on filters and etc didn't find it before we left home.  Thanks guys for getting us back on the road so quickly!
The very first day here we decided to ride up the north coast to Portsmouth, NH.  It was cold and rainy off & on but we headed out anyways.  It was a 35 mile drive one way along beautiful beaches and fun touristy areas. We traveled up 1A along the coastal towns of Salisbury ~ Seabrook ~ Hampton & Portsmouth.  We stopped along the way and enjoyed looking at the beaches and small towns. 

We also stopped at Beach Plum Ice Cream shop in Hampton where I enjoyed a cranberry ~ chocolate chunk ~ walnut ice cream... YUM YUM!    We stopped by Walmart in Portsmouth and loaded up on supplies and then went back down on Highway 1 to Salisbury.

Caladesi Island ~ Dunedin Florida

Only 5 days left until we head out for 7 months ~ venturing & exploring the East Coast from Florida to Canada's New Brunswick, Nova Scotia & Prince Edwards Island. I can hardley wait for the delicious foods of the coastal towns...

I wanted to tell you about one of my favorite beaches here in Pinellas County

Caladesi Island ~ Florida
Your imagination can get a vigorous work-out at Caladesi Island. While walking the three miles of undeveloped beaches, it's easy to get lost in time while wandering around the Island. The island's unspoiled beauty offers a glimpse of Florida the way it looked centuries ago. Once the sun sets, the island is inhabited only by a few boaters allowed to overnight at the small marina and sea turtles who nest on the beaches during summer nights.

It is one of the few undeveloped barrier islands left in the state and the 600-acre park is accessible only by boat. The beaches front the Gulf of Mexico and the bay side of Caladesi is a mangrove swamp, offering refuge for numerous wading birds and shorebirds. Much of the island's interior is a ridge of virgin pine flatwood and live oak hammocks. A self-guided nature trail winds through the island's interior. Park rangers are available to answer questions.

The Island has boardwalks, picnic shelters, bath houses, a ranger station and concession stand. The boardwalks provide access from the beaches to the bath houses and picnic areas while protecting the fragile dunes and sea oats.
Caladesi Island State Park is located three miles offshore from Dunedin, just north of Clearwater Beach. Transportation to the island is easily arranged through the Caladesi connection, a ferry service that operates from Honeymoon Island, Clearwater and connecting to Clearwater Beach. In addition to discovering Florida in its natural state, Caladesi offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, shelling, boating and nature study. However, the island is open only during the day, from 8:00 a.m. until sunset.
Once the boat returns to the mainland, the island's silence is penetrated only by the periodic scream of ospreys soaring overhead. Several of these birds of prey nest on the island.

Off to Eastbank COE Park in Georgia

We headed out from the Florida Panhandle beaches yesterday to the Eastbank COE (Corp of Engineer) Park in Georgia just north of Chattahoochee, Florida. We have been enjoying the Northwest coast of Florida for the last 2 months and it was a little sad leaving ~ however with the Tropical Depression Lee coming it was a good thing our time here was over.

As we pulled away from the beaches it was a little sad for me ~ I truly love Oceans, Lakes & Rivers. Ok ... so I love everything ~ LOL Soon we were headed over another long bridge and a goodbye to the beautiful & graceful Pelicans.

Finally arriving in Bainbridge, Georgia at the Eastbank COE Park



Eastbank COE Park sits on Lake Seminole. We checked into the park and headed to our site... They told us the park had a lot of ants so before we set up we sprinkled comet all around the tires and jacks. Did you know that comet would stop ants from clinbing up into your coach... well it works!



Tassie is all set up once again and we are enjoying sitting down by the lake behind her...

So no more sunsets at the beach but on to the next beautiful sunset & adventures

On Our Way to Grayton Beach State Park, Florida

We were up early this morning getting ready to pull out of Gulf State Park in Alabama and was headed towards Grayton Beach State Park back at Santa Rosa Beach in Florida.
Goodbye Gulf State Park we had a GREAT time here ~



It wasn't a long drive just about 198 miles but we needed to stop at Carpenter's Campers in Pensacola. The recall we had fixed a year ago on our Norcold fridge had gone bad and they told us there was a recall on the recall (LOL) so there would be no cost to us. That is always a good thing and these people were awesome. Friendly and fast, since we told them we were on the road. Lucky for us we had called and they got the part in while we were at Gulf Shores. It only took them 1 hour from the time we pulled in til we pulled back out on the road. If you ever need work done while near Pensacola Florida they are the ones to go to.

Back in our home sate of Florida and look at the huge flock of Pelicans we saw


Soon we were back on I 10 and we headed through Pensacola Florida with ease. Over long bridges and pass neat rest areas with a Blue Angels Jet right out front.



We finally arrived at Grayton Beach State Park ~ and after checking in got set up on our site #39. Nice site thank goodness with FHU 50 amp. For my friends who are not RVers FHU means full hookups ~ water, electric & sewer.



It is a very nice site and there is a little lake right behind us. As soon as I put my bird feeders up we had a bunch of birds... little chick-a-dees and cardinals. But also an unexpected guest ~ a young raccoon who wanted some of the bird seed. Thankfully he couldn't get to it but it was sure fun watching him try.

The Florida Panhandle has many miles of the most beautiful beaches with the whitest sands. There are many areas you can go and have hardly anyone there and it's like having your own private beach. Our daughter Denise, her husband Franks and the grandkids came up to spend a week with us but they stayed at the beautiful Margariteville Hotel. We spent a lot of time at the beautiful beaches & pool at the hotel everyday while they were here.

We bobbed around in the water which was the perfect temperature.

As you can see there is hardly anyone on the beach and it was nice to enjoy the day in the water and lounging around without the crowded beach...
