I am not missing in action but between the rain and cooler weather we haven't been doing too much siteseeing lately. Remember I am a GRITS (girl raised in the south) and just not use to cooler weather. At home in Florida it is 95 today... Here yesterday it never made it to 60. Not that I don't love it because I do! We have been walking the park every day but I am bundled up and keeping as warm as I can. The leaves are starting to change and I am sure that since we have had some really cool nights it should really begin to be very colorful. Next week we are taking a ride up into the Boston Mountains in the Ozarks to see if the leaves are changing up there.

As for now we are back at Spring Hill COE park near Fort Smith, Arkansas. This time we set up Tassie in a site closer to a waterway off of the Arkansas River... This site is very nice but has only 30 AMP electric which we can get away with when we do not need the air conditioner... and Ralph can just stand on the bank to fish

The geese are flying south so we see a lot of them stopping by for a rest... It is funny hearing them go ove honking all the way...

And of course we are still staying close to our daughter Jennifer's house so we are enjoying lots of great quality family time... It is nice being able to see our granddaughters so much...
Here are Ralph and Hannah on a hike in the woods
Some more mushrooms. Did you here that eating mushrooms can help fight against Breast Cancer? Not a cure but another super food....
It is always good to hear about super foods isn't it?
However the twin grandson's back in Florida are missing us now...
and call me everyday to tell me so! Oh the life of a Memaw & Poppy...

♦♦♦Leaving Spring Hill COE Park & Moving on♦♦♦

We have been at Spring Hill COE for 3 weeks and loved every moment of it... It is so beautiful with all the trees, the Arkansas River, the wildlife and thousands of feathered friends... We'll be back here soon... We have reservations for 4 days at Park Ridge RV Park right off of I-40 exit 3 in Van Buren, Arkansas. We needed someplace to stay for Labor Day weekend and it was almost impossible to get into another COE or State Park for the holiday weekend. The good news is that it is just a hop, skip & jump to Jennifer's house from this park. Right after Labor Day we will be moving up to Lake Fort Smith State Park in the Boston Mountains (Ozarks) near Mountainburg, Ar for 3 weeks then we will be back at Spring Hill.

This park (Park Ridge RV Park) is good for a stopover... W/E/S Not to bad of a park but there are a lot of permanent people here. It is $27 dollars a night with a Good Sam discount. Also they want to charge us 2 dollars for each kid and 3 dollars for each adult who would be visiting us more then 2 hours... Never heard of that at any park. So we will be going to Jen's house rather then them coming here to visit. We are always in the woods near tress....

The Office and Store & Picture of Lee Creek

Saturday I spent the morning getting my hair & nails done... It's been a while and I was getting pretty shabby... Then we went over and stayed with the grandchildren while Jennifer went to her study group. For those of you who don't know she is in her third semester of nursing school. When she graduates next April both of my daughters will be nurses... I am so proud of them! It was a beautiful evening back at the campground... We enjoyed a stroll by the creek and watched the sunset.

Sunday my SIL came back home after being away on a job for 2 weeks... I am glad he is coming home not only because I miss & love him but he is the best BBQ'n cook I know and being that Monday is Labor Day he can cook us up something good (pork roast)... I am going to make the "Neely's Cole Slaw" that I loved so much in Memphis and Orange Delight... Jennifer spent the day with her study group again while Eric (my SIL), Ralph & I went and did some errands. After we were done we went back to Tassie and just rested .

Today we did the traditional cookout and spent the day playing games... We had a lot of fun and ate til our bellies were busting... We had Smoked Pork Loin, Pork Steaks, Mild Sweet Italian Sausage, Homemade Baked Beans, Corn on the cob and Cole Slaw

For dessert we had the Orange Delight; Recipe below

ORANGE DELIGHT
1 - 3 oz. pkg. orange jello
1 small can mandarin oranges - drained
1 pound cottage cheese
1 small container cool whip
1 small can crushed pineapple - drained
Walnuts - chopped
Mix all ingredients together & chill for a couple of hours

So Easy to make BUT so delicious
Tomorrow morning we will be pulling out of here to go up to the mountains to Lake Fort Smith State Park... I don't know if I'll have Internet at the site but right up at the visitors center there is great reception. I will have to go there to visit you and do a post.

Hope you had a great holiday weekend and Stay safe!

Until Later

Many days I spend sitting outside reading my books and watching all the birds... There is nothing more peaceful for me then listening to them sing their little songs and flit from one tree to another. Here at Spring Hill I have enjoyed a family of Cardinals, Hummingbirds (who are very territorial) and some birds that I am not sure exactly what they are.

My Cardinals
I believe these are juvenile Cardinals

And other friends

I am not a great photographer but I do love taking pictures...

♥♥♥ Where we are now & More Barges ♥♥♥

We are at Spring Hill COE Park in Barling, Arkansas.... It is right on the Arkansas River outside of Fort Smith & Van Buren and it is a wonderful park. We have 50 amp electric and great water pressure... plus I have service on both Verizon & At&T phones... Our internet service is excellent & the TV comes in good, but we had to put out our portable dish because of all the trees. At this park is the Kimbel Lock & Dam where you can watch the many tugboats with their barges & boats go through... Yes (Justine) I know I have posted barges many times but I love them so.... They are right up there with trains for us. So bare with me and enjoy our photos of the park & river...

Here is Tassie in her little place for the next couple of weeks... As you can see this park is not crowded and the sites are pretty far apart back where we like to stay.

Here is our neighbor in the distance and a view in front of our site
Other views in the campground

This is the road out to the boat ramp & the boat ramp into the river
Here are a couple more campsites in the park

This is a stairway down to the riverwalk where Ralph will go fishing
and a nice playground for the kids

Ok here it is folks... My Tugboat pushing his barges through the locks
Well there you go... Our Home Sweet Home off and on till January
We will be showing you other sites in this area as we visit them...
