~Heading out for the summer~

We pulled out of Rainbow Village in Largo, Fl. Sunday and headed a long 32 miles to LazyDays RV Park in Seffner. We had received a coupon at the RV Super SHow in January for 2 nights FREE so we thought we would take advantage of that. Lazy Days sells RV's, 5vers and Travel trailers and is one of the largest dealers in Florida. The park is right behind their sales department & repair bays. Also there is a Camping World here which is very convenient. We are always good for a Camping World shopping trip... although I think we own everything they sell… LOL

This is the first stop on our summer adventure which has been changed several times... Due to a few unforeseen circumstances we'll be sticking around North Florida, Alabama & Georgia this summer. Our trip up the East Coast to Nova Scotia has been delayed until next year.

Spring Break in Florida

It has been a whirlwind 3 weeks here... My daughter came down from Arkansas with her family for Spring Break. They stayed out at the Holiday Inn on Clearwater Beach and it was a non stop visit from the moment they arrived. We all went to the beach and had family photos taken on the beach... Both of our daughters and their families were there and we had a GREAT time!

We also spent a great deal of time at the hotel enjoying the pool and restaurant.

We even managed to squeeze in a day at Disney in Orlando... My daughters practically grew up going to Disney every month but my grand daughters only get to go when they come down to visit. It was a fantastic day but seeing the kids have fun, the Electric Parade and Fireworks were my favorite part.









One of the many reasons my daughter came down was to pick up some furniture that we has given her when we decided to go full time in our Motorhome. So they rented a truck and packed up a bedroom set, Dinning room and a couple of rocking/gliders that we had. Since they only had room for 2 in the truck we decided to follow them back to Arkansas with the kids riding with us. It was a good trip and after spending 2 weeks there with them we are finally back home in Tassie.

Now we are preparing for our summer trip which has been modified again... Due to some unforeseen situations we will now be only traveling around Florida, Alabama & Georgia. Our big trip has been postponed until next summer.

Did you see the Super Moon???

The "Super Moon" rose in the east at sunset last evening. This unusually large full moon -- known as a super "perigee moon" -- was the biggest in almost 20 years.

"The last full moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993,"

The 'Super Moon' is a situation when the moon is slightly closer to Earth in its orbit than on average. This effect is most noticeable when it occurs at the same time as a full moon

It's so close because the moon's orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle, but an ellipse, according to Weather Channel

When the Moon's orbit takes it the farthest away from Earth, the moon is at its "apogee,". When it makes its closest approach, the moon is at its "perigee."

So not only was it be a full moon Saturday night, but it was also at its perigee. This month's perigee put the moon about 8% closer to Earth than usual, and about 2% closer to Earth than the average lunar perigee.

~~~ Beautiful week ~~~

What beautiful weather we have been having in the Sunshine State…

We spent a one day over at Orlando’s Universal. We had a fun filled day there and enjoyed many rides in the park. They are celebrating Mardi gras for the next month or so and had an incredible nighttime parade. It was a spectacular parade and the boys came away with ton of beads…

After we left the park we went to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Cafe for dinner. We sat outside on the Porch of Indecision and WOW what fun we had. The disc jockey there was amazing and he really entertained us & the kids. I had the best fried chicken & nut salad (sugared pecans) YUM. A fun place to go!!!

I went up to my daughters this week to watch my twin grandsons. I picked them up from daycare and watch them until she got home… she is a nurse and works 12 hour shifts when she goes in. We had a great time together… first I stopped at McDonalds and got them a Happy Meals & then they played in the play area for about an hour. After we left there we went out to Dunedin Causeway and I watched the sunset with my two darling boys. They ran, chased birds, picked up sticks & shells and enjoyed watching the sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico. That really tired them out so when we got home they took a shower and then came out to watch American Idol with me.

So as you can see it was a great week! I hope you had a fun week too!

~~~Crossing the Canadian Border with Ease~~~

Knowing that a lot of my RVing friends will be heading to Canada & Alaska this summer I wanted to help them NOT go through what we did... "STRESS"



Last year we took off heading for the Alaskan territory and knowing we had to cross over the Canadian border in our motorhome right away started giving us all a great deal of stress & worry... We looked up many sites on the internet checking out what we could and could not take over the border. Many of them had different do's & don'ts. Finally after much research, help from my Canadian friends & actually contacting the customs border here is what we came up with...

We crossed the border 4 times and never had any problems!

The most important things to remember are:

 When you pull up to the border patrol turn off your engine
 Remove your sunglasses
 Only answer the questions they ask…
 Do NOT offer any additional information .... repeat this advice again
 I made an inventory list of all the food I had in the coach but they never asked for it. (Thanks Sue for this advice)
 Have all shot records updated & current for your pets
 Passports up to date, signed and ready to hand to them
 Insurance card from your insurance company for Canada travel (yellow card) Ask your agent about it.
 They will ask where you worked and what you did

Weapons:

 We carry a hand gun with us... we pretty much already knew this was a big no no so we left it with our daughter in their gun safe. You can take rifles with some kind of permit but we were not hunting so this didn't apply to us.
 We also had a BB gun which if under a certain pressure could go. I think over 500 pounds of pressure but not sure... Ours was too strong so we gave it away to a lady in the last RV Park that we stayed in before entering Canada.

Liquor:

This was my greatest worry.... LOL LOL
 I have several bottles in a cabinet and just knew they were going to confiscate them... but guess what. If it is for personal consumption you have no worries... make sure they are open and at least 1 drink out of them. Now I did have a few new ones but I broke the seal I just told them they were all for personal use.
 Beer… I believe is 24 bottles or cans… we don’t drink beer so it didn’t apply to us.

Food:

 You can NOT take any food over the border with a pit in it….Period!
 I had a freezer outside full of meat … they never asked but from what I understood was if it was for personal use it was ok to have
 The fridge was stocked with milk, eggs, butter, everyday foods, some fresh veggies, potatoes and onions… I never offered info and only answered their questions.
 Pet food is ok... the dry food we kept the bag just in case they asked what brand it was but they didn't... we also took canned food.

NOTE: remember I did have a full inventory list of all the food & liquor in the coach in case they wanted more detail

Telephone: Just for your info ...

 Turn off your AT&T... they do not have a great Canada coverage and it cost to much to add it. BUT with Verizon for $20 dollars you can add Canada coverage to your plan & then cancel it when you come back out!

Don’t be afraid… This is what worked for us. Neither our friends nor us were ever searched but another friend kidded around about how much beer he had and they search his rig… Hench do not offer info!!! Because they'll tear it apart BUT you have to put everything back… & they do not allow you in the coach when they are searching it which I wouldn't like….
