Our journey up the coast of Oregon - First stop Florence

We have entered Oregon and are traveling north up the coast... Oregon & Alaska are the only 2 states we have not visited in our many years of travel but now we can add Oregon to our list. What a beautiful state it is with all the lush forest and beautiful coastline. It is just loaded with wonderful State Parks, Light Houses and history. Sadly we managed to get here during rainy season... How long does it last? I don't know... But that is OK we are adventurist and will go out to see the sights we can even in the rain. So here are some photos of our journey to our first stop at Florence, Oregon. We stayed at South Jetty Thousand Trails RV Park which is a membership park. We were tucked deep into the woods and had NO Internet or AT&T phone. A very rustic park with the usual club house, pools and trails to walk.
I never got to take pictures of this park.

lush forest and cute little towns

miles & miles of wonderful coast

As we traveled up the road we saw beautiful beautiful beaches and shorelines

Big rocks formations and lots of driftwood

Bridges that had so much character and style

they were just breathtaking

more great rock formations around every corner

and little seaside towns

We are seeing so many wonderful places and things that I will be sharing with you very soon... I am kind of behind in my post updates due to lousy Internet service. Hopefully we'll have it for a while now.

Redwood Forest in Klamath, California

The ride north on Hwy 101 was one of the most gorgeous rides we have taken... Sometimes we were in the woods with the GIANT Redwoods and then all of a sudden we would be at the coast line with such fabulous views...

The ride through Redwoods and us following our friends coach

Sea Oats along the coast & a misty view of the Pacific Coastline

We arrived at our next destination after traveling around 200 miles...
Golden Bear RV
17581 Hwy 101
Kalmath, California

This was a wonderful park and at the Passport America price of $15 it was a bargain. Situated right on the Klamath River surrounded by the Redwood National & State Park. Tassie was parked with her front facing the Klamath River and we had such a beautiful view it was unbelievable. However still no AT&T Internet or phone but our friends had Verizon service. We also had FHU with 50 amp service which is hard to find in this area. The host, Bob, was more then friendly and so helpful with information about the area.

We spent the 3 days here visiting the coastline and Redwoods... I knew the Redwoods were going to be HUGE but in my wildest imagination I never expected what we would see when we got there. The Redwoods are magnificent, immense, ancient, stately, mysterious, and we were all in awe over their beauty. The trees can reach ages of 2,000 years and regularly reach 600 years. Resistance to natural enemies such as insects and fire are built-in features of a coast redwood. Diseases are virtually unknown and insect damage insignificant thanks to the high tannin content of the wood. Thick bark and foliage that rests high above the ground provides protection from all but the hottest fires.

The coast is a also magnificent and mighty. Hundreds of miles of coastal hiking trails, giant redwood forests, and historic lighthouses are just a few of the things
you will find on the Northern California Coast not to mention Seals,
Birds and the mighty waves beating against the huge rocks.
We truly enjoyed our visit to the California coast.

After the 3 days here we have moved up the coast and entered Oregon. Oregon is the only state in the lower 48 that we had not been to. So check that off our bucket list. And continuing our journey up HWY 101 it was just like we expected this is another beautiful state with our ride taking us right up the coast.
Another beautiful Sunset on the California Coast

Where in the World has Donna Been???

We have been very busy having fun and enjoying the sights but I have not had any Internet for days... and still it is shotty. I may be on for a few minutes and then BAM gone! This is the problem when visiting such beautiful places around this country... Sometimes you have it all and sometimes you don't. But we always have FUN!!!

Our drive into San Francisco & Elks Lodge we stayed at in Fremont

We spent 3 days in the San Francisco area hitting several key landmarks... Yes we would have loved to stay much longer since it is one of our favorite cities to visit but we are on our way to Alaska and just hitting some areas on the way. We will be out here again next summer and spend a couple of weeks in this wonderful town. We parked our rigs at the ELKS lodge for the 3 nights in Fremont which is about 30 minutes from San Francisco. We had E/W but no sewer at the Elks Club.

Candlestick Park and the Palace of Fine Arts

Pier 39

Ralph & I in front of Alcatraz and the infamous seals at Pier 39

Carousal at Pier 39 and the famous Lombard Street

San Francisco Electric Cars and the Trolley

Then we left San Francisco, traveled up Hwy 101 about 180 miles which a beautiful drive through wine country... We stayed at a campground called Creekside RV Resort in Willits, Ca. Bad choice but you never know! DO NOT STAY HERE ever if you have a BIG rig!!! It was off of Hwy 101 and hard to get into with a narrow bridge at the entrance. (FIRST CLUE) Then we were greeted by the manager who was a little cocky to put it mildly... "Move your coaches so our regulars can get by" but there was no place to move 2 forty foot rigs with cars in tow... or even turn around (SECOND CLUE) Then he told us we would have to unhitch even if we wanted to turn around... (YIKES) might as well stay if we have to unhitch. So finally we found 2 back in sites (they said they had pull troughs for us) that would fit us and set up... thick woods and a lot of REGULARS in travel trailers from the 60's... What a junky park but we all agreed it that it is only for one night. So after a night of restless sleep because the regulars were up all night BBQin around midnight we headed out carefully... pulling back on to Hwy 101 was just as dangerous as pulling in. OH and even with a Passport America discount this dump was still 21 dollars a night!

Vineyards & Farmhouses along Highway 101

So that is where and what we've been up to... Come back and read more about our great adventure. Hope you are all doing great too!
