We have arrived at Medina Lake in Lakehills, Texas which is about 25 miles west of San Antonio. We are staying at a Thousand Trails membership park and it is pretty much typical of all the other TT parks. These resorts at one time must have been really something but as time went by it became run down and that is when they are bought by ELS corporation and turned into a membership parks... There is always high hopes of the parks being renovated and new items being added for recreation enjoyment but it doesn't always happen like the salesmen say. On another note after paying a somewhat hefty membership fee and the good size yearly dues the camping at these resorts are free... ☺☺☺
Medina Lake resort at one time must have been really nice.... The lake is huge... however while we were there the level of water was really low. I don't think you could even use any of the boat docks to launch your boat.
The sites are pretty much level and spacious... you are also not on top of your neighbor which is a big plus for us. They have 30 & 50 amps sites with electric & water... We are parked in the trees so our satellite on the top of the rig did not pick up a signal but Ralph put up our portable and we have all of our stations. Also our At&T Internet card works BUT at a very slow speed (guess it is better then none) and both At&T and Verizon phones work out here. They have a lot of permanent people who pay to keep their campers on site which I think is not really fair to other members... Also I think they should be kept on one area and not spread out around the park.
After driving around in our car we found a several sites we liked however they had someone on them... We liked a site in the wooded area but was afraid we would not get TV... We decided to take it and YES we did get TV with our portable dish. Tassie is happy all tucked into the site but boy is she dirty after going through snow & rain the last couple of weeks and it has been just way to cold for Ralph to give her a bath.
After getting settled in we went to the Activities center to check it out... All of the Thousand Trail Parks have Clubhouses & pools where they have planned activities and usually planned food events... This one had a hot dog cookout on the first Friday we were here and will have a Fish Fry this Friday... Thursday mornings they have a pancake breakfast... 50 cents for pancakes and .75 cents for 3 pieces of bacon... not to bad! On the weekends they have a little restaurant area where they cook Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. They also have putt putt golf, basketball court & play area for kids.
One of the highlights of this park are the huge amount of deer that roam all through out the park all day & night... They are so tamed from all the people feeding them that when you open your door they don't even spook & run. The only time you see them running is when someone throws out food... and boy do they haul butt then. ☺☺ I being a lover of nature and animals find this very enjoyable to be able to look out my windows and see all the beautiful trees and deer right outside in my site.
We will be going into San Antonio sightseeing and to visit a couple of restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. So keep a watch out for those upcoming post. We ant to of course visit the Missions and infamous Riverwalk. There are 5 total missions here in San Antonio the most famous being of course the ALAMO... and of course Market Square a two block long festival market which sell pinatas, jewelry, clothing, pottery, leather goods.... You can also enjoy enchiladas and margaritas while you listen to the music...
