~Olustee Railroad Depot ~

Olustee Depot in the Osceola National Forest in Florida

The Olustee Depot is a small building with a big history. It served as both a passenger and freight station for many years and is now a visitors information center. The interpretive displays explain the important roles the railroad and timber industries played in the development of north Florida. Hands-on panels, a talking telephone and antique timber and railroad tools give you the feeling of stepping back to the early 1900s. As you walk across the thick, heart-pine floor of the Freight Room, notice the grooves made from years of rolling turpentine barrels on and off the train.

The inside of the station... all floors and a couple of walls are original

  2. Thanks Donna - Donald and I visited a few RR depots in the southwest this past winter - now we need to add the southeast to our list and some depots there!

  3. I love visiting places like this, I always wish the walls could talk and tell us of all the people who walked into that train station throughout the years:-) We have a Train Museum not far from here that is reopening for the summer season next week and I want to go visit it, I've never been inside the museum itself so I'm quite looking forward to it.

I hope your week is going well, my friend. Much love xoxox

  4. Thanks for the tour and all the photos. I love looking at places like that as I have never been further east than Wyoming - pretty much a west coast gal!! Would love to see some of the historical places in the south and east.

  7. Donna, this was one fascinating and incredible tour you've shared. I would love to go through this area myself. I 'heart' trains and their history. Oh......and the Spanish Moss on the trees gives me a real down home Southern feeling.

Thanks for stopping by to visit with me yesterday. As always, I enjoyed having your company.
