~~~ Last Day at Twiltley ~~~
It is our last full day here at Twiltley Branch COE park... Tomorrow we move to Memphis and I can't wait to eat some of those delicious ribs... oh I got off track... Anyways we went to the Okatibbee Dam & Lake it was not to far from the campground. Whenever we stay at a Corp of Engineer park there is usually a dam not to far from the park.
This is a earthen dam which means it is mostly dirt... and built so that if the lake rises it will just go over the top... there is just a very small section of cement where the water flows through.
Just a a little gator that we figured was about 8 feet long YIKES! &
another view of the dam
A picnic area at the park dam (ha ha) & the community beach there...
After the gator you wouldn't catch me in there...
Here is a little Heron that hung around the area next to Tassie...
Just a shot of the trees around us and a tiny leaf on the ground...
I know I just loved the picture
Another gator (8-10 foot long) that was swimming out in the lake behind our campsite... This kept me out of the lake...
Well we are getting the bikes put back on Tassie and all our stuff put away for our road trip tomorrow. It has been rainy off & on and I am hoping that it will not be rainy tomorrow.
Until Later
    Hey, say hi to Jimmy when you're on your way to Memphis. He's in Jackson on a big shut-down/start-up job for Pinnacle Foods. He'll be there till Wednesday.
  5. I wanted to visit Memphis when we were in Tennessee in June but it was too far away from Gatlinburg. I wanted to have some ribs at Neely's restaurant...love their Food Network show!
    That gator would have kept me out of the lake, too.
  7. Great pics! Gators freak me out...just plain give me the willies. Memphis ribs sound very very good. We almost went to Atlanta last week to go to The Varsity, after seeing a show about it.
  9. Missed reading your adventures while I was at Ft Walton so I just caught up.
    You're heading up to where I used to live and where Honey Bear works. I'll enjoy seeing what you post about it.
    I'm glad I found your sight. What a life you're living.
  10. What? Scared of a little ol' alligator like that? Do you remember the old Pogo comic strip from last century? "Albert" sure didn't look scary -- but then he wasn't cruisin' along the lake shore with just eyes and nose above water.
    We sometimes stay at corp of engineers parks. I always love parks that are inexpensive and different.
    Like your leaf nature shot.
    Enjoy Memphis and the ribs1 Looks like you are on the move!:)
    When you are in Memphis, if you go to Graceland, say hi to Elvis for me. Wish I was going with you for some ribs.
