Remembering all Those Who Served

May you find a quiet moment this Veteran's day to reflect on our many blessings...
freedom, family, friendship, liberty and love......
and remember those who sacrificed for the peace and security of all.

A Prayer for Our Nation

God bless America
And keep us safe and free,
Safe from "all our enemies"
Wherever they may be.

For enemies are forces
That often dwell within,
Things that seem so harmless
Become a major sin.

Little acts of selfishness
Grow into lust and greed,
And make the love of power
Our idol and our creed.

For all our wealth and progress
Are as worthless as can be,
Without the faith that made us great
And kept our nation free.

And while it's hard to understand
The complexities of war,
Each one of us must realize
That we are fighting for

The principles of freedom
And the decency of man,
But all of this much be achieved
According to God's plan.

So help us as Americans
To search deep down inside,
And discover if the things we do
Are always justified.

And teach us to walk humbly
And closer in Thy ways,
And give us faith and courage
And put purpose in our days.

And make each one of us aware
That each must do his part,
For in the individual is where peace
Must have its start.

For a better world to live in
Where all are safe and free,
Must start with faith and hope
And love deep in the heart of "Me."

Red, White, and Blueberry Trifle

Ingredients:

Serves 6
1/4 cup plus 1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 store-bought pound cake (12 ounces), cut into 3/4-inch-thick slices
1 bar (8 ounces) reduced-fat cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup heavy cream
3 cups fresh blueberries (three 1/2-pint containers), rinsed and dried
3 cups fresh raspberries (two 6-ounce containers)

Directions:

1. Make lemon syrup: In a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup water to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Let cool completely, then brush over both sides of cake slices. Quarter each slice.

2. With an electric mixer, beat cream cheese with remaining 1/3 cup sugar on high speed until lightened. With mixer on medium speed, gradually add heavy cream in a steady stream; continue beating until mixture is light and airy (mixture will be like a very soft whipped cream).

3. Arrange half the cake pieces in the bottom of a 2-quart serving dish. Spoon half the cream-cheese mixture over cake in dollops; spread to sides of dish. Scatter half the blueberries and raspberries on top. Repeat layering with remaining cake, cream-cheese mixture, and berries, piling berries in the center.

4. Cover, and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour and up to overnight

  23. Hello dear Donna:-)

Such a beautiful poem in honour of our war veterans. Here in Canada it's called Remembrance Day but it pretty much means the same thing as Veteran's Day!

Oh yummy, that trifle looks so good, will have to copy it down for sure! xoxo

  24. Actually it was an episode on Friends. Rachel made a trifle but the pages of the magazine she got the recipe from stuck together and she had a layer from shepherd's pie in her trifle. It was pretty funny.
